Windows 10 will launch on July 29th, but today Microsoft revealed this is only for a selection group of users.
Terry Myerson, Microsoft VP of Operating Systems, announced giving just a weeks notice that Windows 10 will now have a staggered roll-out and the vast majority of upgraders will actually have to wait in line.
“Starting on July 29, we will start rolling out Windows 10 to our Windows Insiders” (Windows 10 beta testers), explains Myerson. “From there, we will start notifying reserved systems in waves, slowly scaling up after July 29th. Each day of the roll-out, we will listen, learn and update the experience for all Windows 10 users.”
“If you reserved your copy of Windows 10, we will notify you once our compatibility work confirms you will have a great experience, and Windows 10 has been downloaded on your system.”
In some ways this is understandable, Myerson argues that a staggered roll-out will “help manage demand” and with his post stating the target of ‘Preparing to Upgrade One Billion Devices’ it is no small task. There are five million Windows Insiders beta testers alone and they are just the tip of the iceberg.
